MPs voted down House of Lords amendments to the Rwanda Bill in what is being seen as the first round of 'ping pong' between the chambers

Morning and welcome to i's liveblog. Rishi Sunak's controversial plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is under threat once again as Labour has vowed to oppose the legislation in a crucial vote on Wednesday. Labour sources in the House of Lords have told The Times they are planning to whip members to vote for about five or six amendments to the bill which would delay migrant flights taking off until safeguards are in place to ensure Rwanda is a safe country for asylum seekers.

We’re not going to back down on Wednesday. “This is the first round of ping-pong, there’ll be an expectation that we ask the government to think again because they just want to ride roughshod over the many concerns with the bill.” It comes after 10 amendments to the legislation from the House of Lords were voted down by MPs on Monday night. it must now return to the upper chamber where there will be a vote on Wednesday.
