Bright Compass, a new HR consulting firm, believes that no campaign can win if their internal team is losing and hopes to move campaigns towards a future with far less sexual misconduct on the campaign trail.
More than two years have gone by since the rise of the #MeToo era and, in that time, a lively conversation about what it means to be a woman in the workplace has been taking place in HR offices, in employee training sessions and on national headlines. When it comes to the public sector though, many believe the conversation is falling on deaf ears. The laundry list of accusations—from the past couple of years alone—seems to call for a more keen ear.
That said, the nature of political campaigns makes it difficult for even the most seasoned HR professionals to provide the level of oversight needed. Most campaigns start out with a scrappy crew, perhaps in a couple of key locations. Then, if they’ve played their cards right, they’ll need to expand—rapidly—across city and state lines.
Through that role, she lived the high-flying, get-it-done-at-all-costs campaign culture and saw firsthand the many ways in which a campaign practically sets itself up for failure when it comes to ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for staffers and volunteers.
