The chain of events took place in the 100 block of West 126th Place, near Wentworth Avenue. It began when a 52-year-old man kept coming out of his house over and over again with both a handgun and a shotgun in hand, according to Chicago Police Deputy Chief Sean Loughran.The man fired several shots at neighbors and ended up striking one of them, Loughran said.
Police came and found the man with a revolver in hand. They first tried using de-escalation tactics, including begging for him to drop the gun, but that did not work, Loughran said. The man then walked away and started engaging other officers – who also tried de-escalation tactics, Loughran said. But when the man finally pointed the gun at an uninvolved third party, officers shot him, Loughran said.
