Police sealed off a major road in Greater Manchester for around five hours this morning with sources reporting that a person was found in the road. The A669 Oldham Road in Middleton has been closed in both directions.
Police and ambulance crews are in attendance at the scene, between Vale Street and Hilton Fold Lane, with reports that a person was found in the road. It is understood that the person has since been taken by ambulance to hospital. Officers from Greater Manchester Police and the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust have been dealing with the incident near to the Hare and Hounds public house. Spring Vale has also been closed by the incident.
Photos from the scene show police tape stretched across the road. A police car has also been parked across the carriageway. A source at the scene says: "There are several police vehicles at the scene, those being from divisional, traffic and the serious collision investigation unit." The closure was first reported at midnight. At 5.15am, roads and traffic monitoring service Inrix reported that the road had fully reopened.
