A second suspect was arrested in the West Dallas shooting that killed a 21-year-old mother last month.
JP , ex-boyfriend and Hayley Marie , friend of late Aureanna Hernandez, 21, remain by a makeshift memorial holding lanterns during a vigil on Friday, April 14, 2023, in Dallas. Hernandez was fatally shot in West Dallas early Tuesday morning.
According to the arrest-warrant affidavit for Rakestraw, he, Garcia, and two other suspects drove past the 2600 block of Ingersoll Street, near Hiawatha Street, about 1 a.m. where two people were standing by a car. Police said in the affidavit the car belongs to a person the suspects were “having ongoing issues with” and have made threats against in the past, including against his family.
The suspects continued further down the street before stopping, according to the warrant, and Rakestraw, Garcia, and a third suspect got out of the vehicle and fired multiple shots from automatic rifles. One of the people standing on the street, Aureanna Hernandez, 21, was struck multiple times and taken to the hospital where she died. Police had previously said a man was also injured in the shooting, although it’s unclear if it was the witness who was standing on the street with Hernandez.The shooting, which was captured on a surveillance camera,
