Police investigate after victim hit in head with sword in City Heights [Breaking]

A victim suffered a serious head injury early Tuesday after being attacked by a man with a sword in a City Heights park, police said.

The victim sought help at a Starbucks coffee shop on Fairmount Avenue shortly before 2 a.m. after being “scalped,” in a nearby park, police said. Someone called 911 to report that the person was bleeding and knocking on the door, police Officer Sarah Foster said.Police said the victim reported being hit on the head with a sword while at Officer Jeremy Henwood Memorial Park on Wightman Street. The assailant was not located.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for a head wound. The injury was not thought to be life-threatening, police said.Staff Writer Karen Kucher contributed to this report.
