Northamptonshire Police resorted to using powers under the Public Order Act to disperse people at a rave near Corby on Saturday night . , and sound equipment was seized.
They found 200 people had gathered for an "unlicensed music event". This is defined as any event of 100 or more people which has not been licensed, and at which music is played so loudly it is "likely to cause serious distress to the inhabitants of the locality". A spokesperson for Northants Police said: "We tried to talk to them first and they wouldn’t leave, so we had to use a Section 63 order to disperse them instead." A Section 63 order is a power given to police under the Public Order Act 1994. It gives police the power to force people to vacate land and remove all property from it and also gives any uniformed officer the power to arrest anyone suspected of a crime without a warrant.
