The Eastside Partnership would also be asked to help manage the greenway in order to replicate its successful work on the Connswater Greenway
A motion has been submitted to Belfast City Council calling for it to takeover the management of the Comber Greenway.
, which was seconded by his party colleague Aine Groogan, which would see the council takeover running the greenway from between the Beersbridge Road and Tullycarnet boundary. .The motion also called for stakeholders of the greenway to develop a plan for it to be gritted, allowing it to be accessible throughout the year.
Councillor Flynn said: "The Comber Greenway is a jewel in the crown of East Belfast, an incredible asset for wildlife, biodiversity and community that has only grown in popularity for users and admirers since its official opening in 2008." "Now I believe it is time for the Comber Greenway to reach the next stage in its history. The council has had a fantastic relationship with the Eastside Partnership regarding the nearby Connswater Greenway project, which has revitalised that part of the East through local regeneration. I believe that this is a great model going forward for the likes of the Comber Greenway, so that we can provide greater connectivity through the East and accessibility for all users of our greenways.
