The owner of the building said the replacement of the 'dark and dismal' buildings would improve the area

Plans have been put forward to demolish and rebuild a number of 'run-down' retail units off a busy road in Nottinghamshire. Businesses in Nottingham Road, just off Mansfield Road in Daybrook, would move into newly built premises, should the proposals be approved.

Ian Hopkins, who runs Apollo Home Improvements and Bella Shutters and Blinds, said the businesses, along with the Lash Out beauty salon - run by his daughter - would all benefit from the plans. He added that Alert Taxis, also located at the site, had recently been bought out so would not be affected."It's a bit tired and run-down," said the 58-year-old Woodthorpe resident, referring to the building.

"It's only going to improve the area. It's going to look a lot nicer for a start. It'll be fresher, at the moment it's dark and dismal. It's also going to bring employment."
