Joel Piroe has spoken with the media for the first time since signing for Leeds United from Swansea City and discussed a range of topics including staying in the Championship despite scoring 41 goals already
Forty-one goals in 91 Championship appearances safely settled any debate Joel Piroe might have anything left to prove in England’s second tier. And yet, rather than leaping into the Premier League or abroad, the 24-year-old wanted another bite with Leeds United.
Three goals in three appearances is not a bad way to get going after averaging just short of a goal every other game in Wales. The dressing room has played its part in settling Piroe down so quickly. “We've known each other for years already and new relationships are built, like with Georgie of course, Willy Gnonto. They're all very friendly and just really good lads.”
“It has been a little bit of a surprise at the start, but the staff explained really well how they want to see the runs and give me the space to play deeper as well,” he said. “How they explained it to me [makes me think] it's a role that really suits me.” “I played too far away from Georgie and that's something we worked on more because they don't want to see me drop too deep, of course, but only on certain occasions.”
