Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner hopes fans will receive it similarly to Star Trek: The Next Generation as the season reassembles the TNG cast.
Star Trek: Picard season 3 is set to reintroduce plenty of familiar faces from past Star Trek stories, and the series' showrunner hopes fans will receive it similarly to Star Trek: The Next Generation. Star Trek: Picard premiered on January 23, 2020, and featured the return of Patrick Stewart in his iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In an interview with SFX Magazine , Star Trek: Picard season 3 showrunner Terry Matalas told the publication in its latest issue, which features Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard on the cover, that he hopes the reaction to Star Trek: Picard season 3 will be similar to that of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
"If you're looking to feel like these are the Next Gen characters that you grew up with, you will see them everywhere. If you're looking for something a little new, well, you get to catch up with them in unexpected ways as well. But you will get those Next Gen feels back for sure. But it's the next step in their journey. It feels like a feature film, a final feature film... They certainly did have a great time and they certainly all would love to do this again.
Two members of the old crew featured in Star Trek: Picard season 1, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sertis, will return to the series for season 3. Both Frakes and Sertis have appeared in the show, but they have also done voice work for the Star Trek animated property, Star Trek: Lower Decks. Frakes has a storied past in Star Trek, appearing in numerous projects since the franchise's reboot on Paramount+ and classic entries.
Despite the continued absence of Will Wheaton as Wesley Crusher, his mother, Beverly Crusher, played by Gates McFadden, will be making her return to the franchise in Star Trek: Picard season 3. McFadden's character hasn't been seen in Star Trek since Star Trek: Nemesis, but she landed her voice-over talents to reprise the role in the animated series Star Trek: Prodigy.
