The Black Joy Parade returned to the streets of downtown Oakland with its fifth annual event on Sunday, marching down Broadway from 14th to 20th Street.began in 2018 to celebrate Black artists and organizations, and in the following couple years it drew thousands of people to downtown Oakland. The last time the event was held in person was in February 2020, just weeks before the spread of the coronavirus resulted in stay-home public health orders.
