Daily News | Phillies extend GM Sam Fuld, other top executives through 2025
Six weeks after the World Series ended, the Phillies front office is reaping the rewards of the team’s first pennant in 13 years.
General manager Sam Fuld and assistant general managers Ned Rice and Jorge Velandia received contract extensions through the 2025 season, the Phillies announced Monday. The moves come one month after the clubto a new contract that runs through the 2027 season. “The Phillies have been nothing short of first class in my time here,” Fuld said in a statement. “I’m thrilled to continue to work for such a tremendous organization in a city that my family and I love so much. We have an exceptional group of players, staff and employees that I’m excited to grow with over the next few years.
Fuld, 41, has been in the GM role under Dombrowski for the past two seasons. A former major league outfielder, he joined the organization after the 2017 season and worked in various capacities, including as a liaison between the analytics and coaching staffs. Rice, 39, and Velandia, 47, will continue in roles they have played since 2016 and 2020, respectively. Rice joined the Phillies as a top aide to former general manager Matt Klentak. Velandia, a former major league infielder, has spent 13 seasons with the Phillies in various roles. He’s the first Venezuelan-born assistant GM in baseball history.
