Statistically, cycling deaths from collisions with automobiles on Saskatoon streets remain rare, with four in the 10 years preceding 2022, representing a third of all such deaths in Saskatchewan, according to SGI. According to Statistics Canada data, an average of 54 cyclists in Canada die each year in collisions with motor vehicles. Since less than one per cent of Canadians live in Saskatoon, two deaths in one year already ranks as way out of proportion.Article content
Do the hearts of the children whose parents were killed on our streets not break the same way they would if a motorist died in a collision? Do we want to be a community that pinches proverbial pennies on cycling safety when people are dying on our streets?
