Following disappointing results in South Carolina Saturday, former South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg will reportedly end his bid for the presidency Sunday evening, according to multiple outlets.

Buttigieg, 38, the first openly gay mayor presidential candidate, is expected to quit the Democratic race after he failed to recapture the momentum lost in Nevada after a strong finish in Iowa and New Hampshire. CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday afternoon tweeted that a Buttigieg campaign aide told him the candidate"is suspending his campaign this evening."

"The former Mayor is returning to Indiana to deliver a speech in South Bend this evening," Tapper reported the aide as saying.corroborated the report, citing an unnamed person briefed on Buttigieg's plans. A campaign aide also confirmed that Buttigieg intends to suspend his campaign to CNN.This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
