People in face masks are a familiar sight amid the coronavirus outbreak in China and as cases pop up around the globe. Now, some are making sure their pets are covered, as well.
“We had a 300% sale increase in Amazon, which led us to run out of inventory,” said Kirby Holmes, owner of K9 Mask.
Holmes told Fox Business that customers have been calling asking specifically whether the masks would protect against coronavirus. While they can't guarantee it will actually protect pets against the virus, he told Fox, “all we can say is the filters were designed using the exact recommendation the CDC suggests for humans to wear to protect against bacteria."
Most of the recent sales of the dog masks, which can cost up to $50, were shipped to customers in the U.S., according to Holmes.that his inventory, initially marketed to help pets fight air pollution, has shifted from selling 150 masks per month to at least 50 pieces a day with the advent of the outbreak.
