Perhaps the Snoopy and R. Crumb posters on your wall are obscured by clouds of smoke from the bong cradled in your best friend’s lap.
It’s an intriguing conundrum. There are other monoliths of early ’70s Dad Rock — “Who’s Next,” “Led Zeppelin IV,” “Layla,” “Eat a Peach,” insert your own candidate here — so why has this one had such an insanely long tail? “Dark Side” is among the best-selling albums of all time , starting with an uninterrupted run ofon the Billboard 200 and regular appearances up to and including 2023, for a total of 981 weeks on the charts.
But it certainly looked that way after the strained noise-rock half of “Ummagumma” , although the first two sides of that double album conveyed the band’s live power.
