“For some, it is a luxury to have rest or it is a privilege to be able to rest and release yourself from survival mode,” but it does not have to be an expensive thing like online influencers and brands have you believe, Butler said. “I would encourage people to think about all the ways that rest can show up for them in their lives that they have access to right now,” Butler said. “What are the things they control or what are things they can take a break from that would enhance their quality of life right now?”
What’s more, there’s a baseline belief in Black and brown communities that rest is something that is just not an option, Lewis said. That’s also wrong and an important belief to unlearn.
