PercyJackson author Rick Riordan shoots down rumors that some of the original movie actors could appear in the Disney+ show: 'There will be no crossover casting between the movies and the new TV show. This must be and will be its own thing.'
Rick Riordan, writer of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, has responded to rumors that cast members from the film adaptations will be appearing in the upcoming Disney+ series. Percy Jackson is a series of five books written by Riordan, which have sold over 180 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling book series in history. In 2010, a film adaptation of the first book in the series was made, titled Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a post to his personal blog, Riordan has thoroughly dispelled all rumors of cast members from the Percy Jackson films making cameos in the television series. Riordan says that, even with his very limited engagement on social media, he's been overwhelmed with questions over whether or not certain film actors will be appearing in the series.
"To answer another question I get a lot, even being isolated from social media: What about actors from the original movie adaptations? The answer should not surprise you if you’ve read anything I’ve said about the movies over the last decade, but I’ll say this again: A lot of wonderful, talented actors were involved in those movies.
While the Percy Jackson films have received backlash for everything from the writing, to the costuming, to the set design, something that audiences generally agreed upon were many of the casting choices. Not only was Lerman a beloved Percy Jackson, but other casting choices – like Pierce Brosnan as Chiron and Uma Thurman as Medusa – were well-recieved as well.
Despite Lerman not returning to the Percy Jackson franchise, he has gone on to express his excitement for the new series, saying that he's eager for a new generation of fans to be introduced to the much-loved character. He's also previously confirmed he would not be making a cameo in the Percy Jackson show, though many fans considered this to be an artful lie at the time.
