Even with just a handful of seasons under his belt, Per Götesson’s design signatures are impressively well established. His experiments with denim are one such signature—Götesson has an alchemical ability to make the textile appear raw and rigid one moment, supple the next.
It was interesting, then, to see him pivot to something a little darker and more abstract this season. His starting point was the apartment of queer playwright Joe Orton, who scandalized 1960s London with his anarchic, violent polemics satirizing the religious establishment and the state.
Part of the success of Götesson’s vision lies in his deft choice of collaborators: working with artist Patrick Waugh, collages from old magazines and nature books were printed across a denim gilet and a series of patchworked tops, lending the collection a certain DIY, haphazard glamour. This dovetailed neatly with the jewelry pieces, designed by El Odeh, which took everyday objects like coins and cutlery and transformed them into strangely desirable trinkets.
