Pep Guardiola showed his players a picture of a mountain ahead of this season's Champions League campaign, attempting to hammer home that they needed to come right down from the Treble and start at the bottom if they were to once again climb the heights.
This match provided a reminder of the small slices of luck that can make a big difference in football. Nominally a right back but moving forward at will, he was targeted initially by Young Boys before they realised that in trying to attack him they were only allowing him more time and room to dominate the ball.
It was no surprise to see Grealish involved when City finally did get the breakthrough, with two dangerous corners that troubled the home defence. The first saw Akanji's header scrambled behind, while the second saw Rodri put the ball back in and Akanji turn in after Dias had seen his header saved.
