Patients with mental health disorders are roughly two times as likely to die from Covid-19 than people who do not have a mental illness, new research published Tuesday found, prompting researchers to urge public health officials to do more to prioritize vulnerable groups in their efforts to control the pandemic. Immune system differences in people with bipolar or schizophrenia could possibly explain the higher risks in these groups, the researchers wrote.
