One staple dish in any Mauritian household is lentils and rice, known asFinely chop and sauté and onion in oil with thyme, ginger, and garlic. When the onions become translucent, add chili, half a cup of tomato sauce, and continue cooking. Then, add lentils , 2-3 cups of water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the flame and let the lentils simmer for another 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper and spoon over rice.
