Pensioner says Christmas ruined by Reborn Monkey 'scammer' selling popular doll for £50 each
A pensioner says her Christmas has been ruined after buying a Reborn Monkey for £50 from Facebook Marketplace which never turned up.
She had seen the Reborn Monkey advertised by an account under a woman's name on a group based in Cumbria and Lancashire. She had wanted to get her sister, Alison, 52, something special this Christmas. "There's a 16 year age gap between me and my sister, so she's always been the baby to me. I thought 'oh, I'll do this and then she won't know anything about it'. I picked this so she could have a little surprise at Christmas but we're so close, that we even buy the same things and we're not together, so I thought I'd be able to surprise her.
She said at the time, she didn't understand that sending the payment this way meant it wasn't protected if something went wrong with the transaction. "I can't afford to spend another £50 on a present now. I'm 70 next year and I'm disabled. I have COPD, I can't get out that often. You know, I can't get it in my head. Why do people do this? How does she sleep at night?
