The contours of the next package are taking shape despite Republican resistance to more spending and a deepening debate over how best to confront the deadly pandemic and its economic devastation.President But McConnell also signaled an interest in beefed-up virus testing strategies as central to the nation's ability to take steps “back toward normalcy.”
The No. 2 Republican, Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, said Washington had already “flooded the zone” with virus relief and should assess “what’s working and what’s not.”
