The demolition is part of Sefton Council's long-term plans to regenerate Bootle town centre. The proposal, if passed, will see 5,755m2 of The Strand torn down.
A report submitted by K2 Architects said: "The scope involves the removal of the Palatine block, public house and rear glazing canopies, consisting of flower-ground retail space and upper-floor residential. The demolition is part of phase one for the regeneration of Bootle Strand and aims to "make good the site" for future development. It is one of a number of measures introduced by the council, and recently the Salt and Tar events venue was opened off Washington Parade.
