The superintendent said the goal would be to demolish Parma High School shortly after the 2022-2023 school year.
“This is a very positive step by the board,” Superintendent Charles Smialek said. “We knew we’re never going to pass an operating levy operating three high schools.
The move reconfigures grade bands at the remaining 11 schools to K-4, 5-8 and 9-12, with Parma Park Elementary School becoming the new location of the central office, ACES and the future Parma Academy of Gifted Enrichment. While the district expected more of a public outcry regarding the proposal to close Parma High School, Smialek said eight people spoke out against the plan at a special community meeting last Wednesday , followed by a handful of folks prior to Thursday’s board of education vote .
