The Parks and Recreation reunion on last night's SNL episode has lit up the internet. The series, which was originally intended to be a spinoff of the mockumentary sitcom The Office before being retooled as a standalone story, premiered on NBC in 2009 and followed the exploits of the Parks and Recreation department of the local government in Pawnee, Indiana.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Last night's episode of SNL was hosted by Plaza in honor of her recent role on the Golden Globe-winning HBO series The White Lotus. The episode was jam-packed with special guests, including M3GAN's Allison Williams, President Joe Biden , and Amy Poehler, who reprised her role as Leslie Knope opposite Plaza as April during a segment of Weekend Update.
Could A Parks & Recreation Reboot or Sequel Show Ever Happen? Buzz around a potential revival series of the iconic sitcom has been swirling around the Internet since the show originally went off the air in 2015. However, recent events have conspired to increase the buzz into a roar of fan demands. This began at a PaleyFest event in 2019 when the cast confirmed that they would be willing to return should Parks and Recreation creator Mike Schur have an idea for a new series.
While the cast and crew seem excited by the prospect in the abstract, there currently don't seem to be plans to mount a revival as far as NBC is concerned. There would also be huge scheduling issues with one performer in particular. Chris Pratt, who played the lovable goofball Andy Dwyer on the series, is now a major A-list movie star, having appeared in big ticket franchises including the Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World trilogies.
This would be discouraging, because Schur has confirmed that "if one single person said no, we wouldn't do it." However, the fan response to this SNL reunion and other related Parks and Recreation stories might just help the network tip further in the direction of greenlighting a new season. It seems like a certainty that fans would delight in reuniting with their favorite characters, including Nick Offerman's grouchy Ron Swanson and Adam Scott's adorkable Ben Wyatt.
