An inquest has been opened into her death
An inquest has been opened into the death of an RAF sergeant nurse who is suspected to have died from tuberculosis after several weeks in hospital. On Monday, May 15, the inquest into the death of Carrianne Franks began.
The coroner explained how after falling ill in June 2021, Carianne was not given the TB diagnosis until weeks later. She said: “a formal diagnosis was made and she started treatment, unfortunately that came too late for Carrianne.” One of these positions was at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, where in November 2029 Carianne was working in the acute assessment unit. That same month a patient in the unit was confirmed to have TB and was moved into a side room. Whilst Carrianne was not that patient’s main nurse, there was an overlap between her and the patient on two dates.
She was discharged on medication but three days later she was admitted to hospital again by ambulance on August 15. Paramedics took her to the nearest hospital, which is Bassetlaw Doncaster in Worksop. Pathologist, Professor Abed Zaitoun, of Nottingham University Trust Hospitals, gave evidence in court regarding the independent post mortem examination he carried out on Carrianne. In his findings he stated that her heart “was normal” but her lungs were not.
