Cabella's is owned Bass Pro Shops.

The newspaper said that Fillios died on Feb. 3, 2020 at UMass Memorial Medical Center after shooting himself with an 1851 Pietta .44 caliber black powder revolver, which was purchased along with ammunition, powder and accessories, three days earlier at a Cabela’s store in Hudson, Massachusetts.

At around 5:30 a.m., Feb. 1, Fillios brought the gun to a friend’s house and attempted to “unjam or dislodge ammunition” from the gun, and it went off and a lead ball entered his head through his chin, the report said. When asked by police about the transaction, MassLive reported that the lawsuit said that the general manager at the Cabella’s location said the store employee erred in not asking the 20-year-old to show an FID card or license to carry while making his purchase.

Justin was proud of his time as a student at the Advanced Math and Science Academy in Marlborough and was active with the former Central Mass Young Marines,“Justin was very much a free spirit, known for his spontaneity and high energy. He loved to be on the go. Justin’s special gift was sharing his heart with others. He had a keen awareness of others’ needs and was always willing to help. He was thoughtful, empathetic, and selfless. His joy was in giving to others in need,” the obituary said.
