How true is Netflix's Painkiller?
Though Painkiller shares the story of the real Sackler family, Screen Rant was asked to clarify that events in Netflix's series were fictionalized.

She represents the pharmaceutical sales reps who worked for Purdue Pharma. As mentioned in the New Yorker’s article, many OxyContin reps believed that they were doing a good thing at first. The company had provided them with dubious charts and marketing materials. Like Shannon in Painkiller, Purdue’s reps had no way to know they were being lied to.
During the time period covered in Painkiller, many people went from prescription to illicit opioids. According to a 2018 report from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, in the 2000s, 75 percent of people abusing heroin reportedly started with a prescription opioid, like OxyContin, first. This was a prevalent enough issue that it should’ve been depicted in Painkiller in some way.
