The Padres’ third baseman is expected to be ready to participate in spring training, though he could be limited through the early part of the season. The recovery time provided by the team is four to six months.Machado, 31, played with what is commonly referred to as tennis elbow for parts of the past two seasons. The pain was particularly acute the final two months of the season, and he was limited to serving as the Padres’ designated hitter beginning on Sept. 1.
It is also expected that manager Bob Melvin will return, according to people who have talked to both men. That has not been confirmed, and team officials did not comment Tuesday.
