The last time the Padres played a postseason game in front of fans at Petco Park, it was Dodgers manager Dave Roberts leading off for the home team

A native San Diegan who has remained a county resident well after his days at Rancho Buena Vista High, after his stint as a Padre on the field and as a coach, Dave Roberts admits it’s been a bit interesting on his street in Cardiff over the last week.

Now Roberts’ Dodgers are standing directly in front of the Padres as they look to advance to the NLCS for just the third time in franchise history.“This is where you find out who your real friends are,” Roberts said with a laugh. “Yeah, I’ve kind of some new lines with people. But no, it’s all good.”The last time the Padres played a postseason game in front of fans at Petco Park, it was Roberts leading off and playing left field for manager Bruce Bochy.

“We couldn’t get to Carpenter,” Roberts recalled. “I think hit a -run homer off Peavy, so I get on Peav about that one. … We laid an egg against Weaver in the shadows. I think Chris Young won a game for us maybe. Unfortunately we couldn’t do it.”Weaver started a 2-0 win for St. Louis with five shutout innings and Young struck out nine over 6 2/3 shutout innings in Game 3 before Carpenter stalled the Padres again with seven strong innings in the clincher.
