Rougned Odor drives in four with a pair of doubles, Matt Carpenter hits two-run homer, Michael Wacha extends scoreless streak to 15 innings
Rougned Odor stepped into the batter’s box in the first inning Sunday with an opportunity, same as so many Padres batters have had in 2023.
Tatis was the first Padres player out of the dugout to greet the three runners who scored to continue building a Padres lead that eventually became a 7-0 victory over the Red Sox on Sunday at Petco Park. Sunday also demonstrated for the Padres that winning doesn’t require them to be all they think they can be.
After Juan Soto popped out, Matt Carpenter walked to assure the gifts from Kluber would yield not be entirely wasted. After those four unearned runs, the Padres did not get another hit with a runner in scoring position and finished 1-for-10 in that situation. Tom Cosgrove worked the seventh, Nick Martinez the eighth and closer Josh Hader, who had pitched once in the previous 10 days, the ninth.
