Pacific Drive offers a unique take on both survival and vehicle genres, where players must care for their car as they try to escape the surreal Olympic Exclusion Zone. The game is the debut for Ironwood Studios, which is headed by industry veterans from titles like Don't Starve and Infamous. Screen Rant attended the first hands-on experience that's been offered for the title at Gamescom 2023, giving a better idea of what it's like behind the wheel.
On runs, players will both collect car crafting materials and anchors, which help open teleportation gateways to get back to the garage. When these gateways are activated at the end of a run, it will start what Rosen referred to as a "ring of doom," which will slowly enclose on the player as they race towards the exit.
