Susan Cheslick said she has no recollection of putting the small animals in the freezer and blamed her diabetes and severe hyperglycemia, which caused her to remain in a hospital for 10 days.
The incident took place in March 2022, when an animal response team came across the 28 kittens – all estimated to be one-to-two days old – in a freezer in her former apartment on South River Street, Plains Township.
Humane officers also removed more than 30 cats from the apartment, and said the animals were living in “deplorable conditions.” The kittens were alive when put in the freezer but unfortunately, they all froze to death, according to reports. She has been sentenced to six months in the county’s Intermediate Punishment Program under house arrest in addition to 12 months probation. Under the terms of her sentence, she’s also not allowed to own animals, according to reports.
