After suffering two big statewide losses last November and with 2024 on the horizon, Pa. Republicans are starting to move toward accepting mail-in voting as a vital tool.
In the wake of statewide losses last year and with the 2024 election on the horizon, some Pennsylvania Republicans are urging the party to tacitly accept, if not embrace, mail-in voting, recognizing they need that voting option to win elections.
“I didn’t embrace , obviously, during the campaign,” Mastriano told WPHT radio host Dom Giordano in a Jan. 19 interview, according to a transcript posted on. “We probably should have used it as the Democrats had, because I don’t see how we win elections without embracing that idea.” “We simply cannot allow the Democrats to continue to bank hundreds of thousands of votes before Election Day arrives,” Diamond wrote. “Voting by mail is legal, it will be legal for the foreseeable future, and if we reject it we do so at our own peril.”
Republican strategist Charlie Gerow, a former primary candidate for governor, invoked a sports analogy to make his point. Kris Kanthak, an associate professor of political science at the University of Pittsburgh, said Pennsylvania Republicans might have an uphill battle to convince their voters to use mail-in voting after years of hearing about supposed fraud.“If they believe you now then they think you weren’t telling the truth before,” she said, and that could make voters even more suspicious.
