Stephen Kruskie accepted responsibility for what occurred near Shamokin in 2021.
“If you had stopped things may have been different,” county Judge Paige Rosini told Stephen F. Kruskie, 28, of Mount Carmel, Wednesday when she sentenced him to 25 to 70 years in prison.He had pleaded guilty in March to charges that included voluntary manslaughter and homicide by vehicle in the death of Cheyenne T. Swartz, 21, of the Shamokin suburb of Coal Twp.
Swartz was found just before midnight on May 21, 2021, unconscious with severe head injuries in the 1400 block of West Arch Street in Coal Twp. Kruskie originally was charged with an open count of homicide but through negotiations with the district attorney’s office he pleaded to the manslaughter charge along with the others.
