The state's Department of Labor and Industry is seeking budget allocations to hire more unemployment benefits caseworkers and continue in-person assistance.

The Department of Labor and Industry addressed the problem publicly after being contacted by Spotlight PA.Pennsylvania’s Labor Department is seeking funds to expand its unemployment compensation workforce, with the goal of finally eliminating the backlogs that have plagued the system since the pandemic and taking calls in “real time” by August.

That funding will also be used to continue and expand in-person consultations for unemployment claims, a program that was started last year using federal stimulus funds, Department of Labor and Industry officials told a state Senate panel during a budget hearing Tuesday.
