Owami Davies review must be public COMMENT by brolezholloway
Why did what started out as a missing persons inquiry became a case of kidnap and murder before then apparently reverting back to a missing persons inquiry?
The issuing of the wrong picture Owami is unforgivable and speaks to the all too familiar traits we see of black people being mistaken for each other. There also needs to be a review that involves all agencies involved both in this case and, more generally, in the search for missing people to investigate the known racial disparities in missing persons cases.
While our worst fears were thankfully not realised, sadly some missing persons inquiries do turn into murder inquiries – and that’s where the first crucial hours matter.
