An outspoken Houston attorney is taking up Attorney General Ken Paxton's defense in his impeachment trial.
Tony Buzbee first publicly appeared as Paxton's lawyer on Wednesday, when he gave a press conference discussing the case. In his address, the attorney blasted the charges against Paxton as flimsy and baseless. He expressed confidence that the charges would crumble upon any further scrutiny.Buzbee quoted Republican state Rep. John Smithee in deriding the allegations.
"Not even traffic court would accept this kind of foolishness," Buzbee added."The speaker has done great damage to the institutional reputation of the House of Representatives."
