that we're piloting for 40,000 miles is the first high-voltage hybrid truck we've had in our fleet. Not only did we welcome the extended exposure to Toyota's new i-Force Max hybrid powertrain, with its twin-turbo V-6, but we also wanted to see whether the Tundra needs as many fill-ups as comparable V-8 half-ton pickups we've fostered. So far, the Yota has proved to be quite the thirsty ride.
The EPA estimates that our 2023 Tundra is good for 20 mpg combined. Yet after 10,000 miles, the hybrid's average fuel economy is 4 mpg lower than advertised. Sure, the truck's current 16 mpg is considerably better than the 13 mpg it was averaging after the first 3000 miles, but that stretch involved quite a bit of towing. Our most up-to-date result is only 2 mpg higher than what we saw on our 2019 Ram 1500 Limited, which combined a 5.
