Oregon State and head football coach Jonathan Smith agreed to new terms on a contract Sunday, a deal that further secures his time in Corvallis.
“Coach Smith has taken the Oregon State football program to new heights, and we knew it was important to reward him and his staff to keep the momentum moving forward,” Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes said in the release. “The success they’ve achieved on the football field has been evident, and Coach’s Smith leadership and the work of his staff also has changed the culture of the program in the classroom, the weight room and the community.
The financial commitment to Smith comes at a great time for Oregon State, which has invested $153 million in renovations to Reser Stadium. With the stadium upgrades coming at the same time as success on the field, the Beavers’ brand is on the rise. That was never more clear than when they rallied to upset rival No. 15 Oregon on Nov. 26, and Smith has been the driving force behind all of it.
Although nobody believes Smith is going anywhere, it was important for Oregon State to give him an extension and raise.
