Opinion: What do San Diegans think the future should hold for the British monarchy? [Opinion]
As a dual citizen with ties to both the U.K. and the U.S., I see the crowning of King Charles as a living example of how deeply attached we are to the idea of a fairy tale monarchy. The royal family is serving a valuable function, keeping that fairy tale alive and suffering all the trauma of our projections and expectations. We want a certain dignity, and we are happy to have a little scandal mixed in with the story. The Biden administration has stopping using Title 42, under which the U.S.
Hoping for the best for my “other” country. I’ll wait with the rest of us to see how the tale unfolds.Regarding the English and their monarchy, it is inconceivable that in today’s world there are still countries that give credence to “blue blood” and royalty ordained by God. Yet somehow the poor people are still duped to think that it’s in their best interests to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a family and blood line all because, well, it’s just always been that way.
Is it any wonder why Prince Harry gave up his royal duties due to the invasiveness of the press and racism toward his wife? The U.K., with the arrogance of going its own way with Brexit and its thinking that it’s somehow better than us, can have its monarchy, and quite frankly choke on it.I was born in England, lived there until I was in my early 20s and even went to school with the then Prince of Wales, now king, although I cannot claim to have been close to him.
Much of Europe, including Scotland and Ireland, have proven that if you have a castle with a colorful, bloody history, the tourists will come. How presumptuous is this question? It is none of our business.
