Opinion: The Unforgettable Prom brings delight to thousands of Southern California cancer patients [Opinion]
We get to see the smiles, laughter, tears and absolute happiness this event offers to so many patients.
So often we see these kids in the hospital tethered to IV poles, receiving chemotherapy, getting painful procedures, feeling wretched and having to go through tough experiences that many of us will never have to endure in our lifetime. To be able to see our patients having the time of their lives is a privilege and a joy.
Prom brings excitement, it brings possibility, it brings comfort, it brings hope. For those patients who were or might be unable to attend their own prom, they can participate in this rite of passage and feel all the feels that go along with being able to do something every teenager should be able to do. Being able to reminisce about wonderful times can be something so helpful.
We are forever grateful to Carmen Delgadillo and the Friends of Scott Foundation for providing this enchanted evening for our patients. Prom has changed lives, boosting morale, building confidence, fostering friendships and bringing joy. We are so excited to be able to celebrate again this year. Carmen, thank you for making a difference and making patients smile!
