Opinion: Empty bike lanes a telling comment on who has clout in San Diego [Opinion]
San Diego’s forward-reaching climate plan has multiple features and goals — many admirable.in the near future. Millions of dollars have been spent facilitating this remarkable goal by constructing bicycle lanes or pathways throughout the city and many more millions are scheduled to be spent.
30th Street is an example of a mostly unchallenging terrain and a bike pathway that stretches its length to North Park and South Park. I drive it frequently at different times of the day. Mostly there are no bikes to be seen. Maybe — and maybe — one. Occasionally two. My husband and I frequent a fish and chips spot on 30th where we sit for more than an hour. Again: maybe one bike. Occasionally two.
Is this a joke? Or is it a monumental rip-off perpetrated by a very small but clearly well-organized special interest group of biking enthusiasts?
