It will create dozens of jobs
Building work has got off the ground at a new Aldi which will create 30 jobs. Scaffolding has gone up around the bare shell of the store being built on undeveloped land to the west of The Becket Way, West Bridgford, after Rushcliffe Borough Council gave the plan approval.
The proposed hours of opening would be 8am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and between 10am and 4pm on Sundays. More than 100 parking spaces will be marked out for customers, including four electric vehicle charging points, seven disabled and six parent and child spaces. The proposal had initially faced significant opposition over concerns regarding highway safety.
An Aldi spokesperson told Nottinghamshire Live: “We have already started the construction of our new West Bridgford store and plan to open the store in November. This will create up to 30 jobs and enable local people to shop and save closer to home.”Nottinghamshire County Council, the acting highway authority in the area, originally objected to the introduction of a four-arm mini roundabout on The Becket Way.
The new Aldi store will neighbour the recently completed Wilford Lane retail park, which hosts a Lidl supermarket, PureGym, Dunkin' Donuts, Starbucks, and Cod's Scallops chippy. The plan was given planning permission on March 9. In a decision report, a Rushcliffe Borough Council planning officer said: "Not only would the scheme accord with the development plan as a whole, but the balance of material considerations also weighs in its favour. Consequently, it is recommended that the application be approved, subject to the proposed conditions."
