, Miller Lite hosted an Open & Proud town hall event recently at Station 4, a dance club that has long been an axis at the heart of Dallas’ Cedar Springs strip., a national LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, aim to gather feedback from different cities on how bars can be more inclusive to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning populations.
Open & Proud town halls have previously been held in Chicago and New Jersey, with an Atlanta event postponed until late 2022. The town halls are a part of Miller Lite’s Open & Proud initiative that was launched this June. In addition to a $250,000 donation to Equality Federation, Miller Lite will compile suggestions from the town halls to create training materials for distribution to 55,000 bars where the beer is sold by the end of 2022.
Associate marketing manager for Miller Lite, Lauren Cassel, explains the goal of the Open & Proud initiative: “By listening directly to the unique intersectional needs of the LGBTQ+ community, Miller Lite is aiming to create safer, more accepting spaces where we can have a direct influence — bars.
But mainstream bars outside of the strip have room for improvement when it comes to creating environments where all patrons, regardless of their sexual orientation, can feel safe and comfortable. Following are the key areas for improvement, based on discussions at the Dallas Open & Proud town hall.
