Opinion: Online church is here to stay, but worshippers will always need to gather together | Buddy Siebenlist
It is amazing how rapidly religious groups adjusted to the pandemic by expanding their online programs for worshippers. However, too much focus on virtual services may bring short-term gain and long-term pain.
By shifting to the virtual environment, faith leaders have kept their congregations’ hearts beating. But without vibrant in-person services to keep people inspired, the church may gradually lose its flame, as congregation members and parishioners become more and more disconnected from one another and from the living presence of the spirit.
Even though the pendulum has seemingly swung in favor of online worshipping, there are reasons to be skeptical about that online church attendance will lead to a longer-term commitment. While it is incredibly easy to visit a virtual church campus, it is just as easy to stop visiting it, without any consequences or sense of loss.
