Via an interview with OnePiece voice actor Mayumi Tanaka, manga creator Eiichiro Oda has debunked a fan theory about the series' ultimate treasure, confirming it's a real item, not the friendship found along the way.
One of the greatest mysteries in One Piece concerns the nature of the treasure that gives its name to the wildly popular manga series, waiting on the island Laugh Tale, the final destination for any pirate crew. Fans have been speculating about the"One Piece" treasure since the manga was first published 25 years ago, but recently creator Eiichiro Oda apparently debunked one major theory on what the treasure actually is.
One Piece follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew. Luffy's ambition is to become the Pirate King, and the only way to claim that title is to reach the island of Laugh Tale, located at the end of the Grand Line, and find the treasure left there by the greatest pirate in history, Gol D. Roger, called"One Piece." While central to the manga's narrative, series creator Eiichiro Oda has never revealed any detail on the mysterious treasure.
This revelation comes at just the right time for manga fans. Oda has revealed recently that One Piece is approaching its ending, and while fans will still have several years to enjoy the manga's conclusion, it is clear that events are accelerating towards the finale of Luffy and his friends' adventure.
